The earth books contain the "monad of location", the culture, the events
that took place at this location: thus they become a poetic object. The
earth, the soil, has the longest memory. The number seven, in analogy to
the seven days of the creation, multiplied with 1000 (For a thousand
years in your sight are like a day, Psalm 90) gives 7000 earth books,
which - filled with earth from 7000 locations on the globe - someday
will fill the One-Earth-Altar. Joseph Beuys chose this number already
for his "Stadtverwaldung" (7000 Oaks) for the documenta 8 in Kassel
1982.
The book brings the message of the real earth is into a form that
combines nature and culture in the One-Earth-Altar and relates it to the
spiritual world.
